"We are a group of medical professionals, but this is not medicine," said Karen Bradley, a Montpelier vet and chairwoman of the society's Animal Welfare Committee. "Just because it is a procedure we do does not mean it is right."
Ear cropping involves slicing off the back half of a dog's ear and then resetting it — usually with tape — when the dog is between 12 and 14 weeks old. Few vets enjoy performing the procedure, which is bloody and causes "pain and distress," they said. PURPOSE: To treat animals more humanely. And to get dog show competitions to use the same common sense we use for all other competitions. GOAL: To make Ear Cropping an Illegal act in the United State just as it is in most of the rest of the civilized world. OR At the very least to get the Dog Shows to separate the NATURAL DOGS from the Cosmetically ALTERED DOGS like most other competitions!

No other competition involving a live being allows even the administering of drugs let alone the mutilation of entrants!
Yet they ignore these facts at the dog shows:
The National Dog Show:
How the judges select the champion.
The Purina National Dog Show aired on television Thanksgiving Day after the Macy’s parade.
During the event, judges scrutinized the dogs closely in order to make their selection of the champion dog who will be awarded the prestigious title of Best in Show.
Have you ever wondered how these judges are chosen and what they hope to see in a winner?
Here are some of the criteria used in the competition:
The judges are licensed and have spent years learning about the different dog breeds and understanding canine anatomy.
Their goal is to pick the ideal dog within its specific breed. This is taken from a written description about the standard features of each type of dog.
- The judges look for general appearance, disposition, and gait.
- They look for physical traits such as height, weight, coat and color.
- And they observe special features of the feet, tail, eye and ears for the specific breed.
- BUT, They don't consider if the Animal is a Natural Dog or Cosmetically Altered Dog!...WHY NOT!
Some of the characteristics are quite general so there is a certain amount of individual interpretation allowed by each judge.
This is why a particular dog will score higher for one judge than he will for another. After adding all of these criteria together, one dog will rise to the top of the competition and be crowned, Best in Show.
